By The Time You’re Reading This…

By the time you’re reading this my Memorial weekend has hopefully already started.

I’ve already made the painful 7 hour drive back to Nebraska with Chris driving, and 70 pound Harlow sitting on my lap the entire way- breathing heavily and farting at his leisure. Same goes for Harlow. Just kidding (although I think we all know I’m not.)

We’ve already had our pre road trip bickers. Your golf clubs won’t fit! Yes they will. Where is my phone charger? Why are you always my hiding shit? No, I haven’t seen your swim trunks- why would I hide your swim trunks? Whoops, I think I hid your swim trunks…

And hopefully we made it out of the city in less than two hours (and still talking to each other.) The start of road trips are always hard, I’m just being honest here.

Choosing which lane is faster, when it’s appropriate to get gas, where to exit to get gas, which music to listen to, these are all things that make a relationship stronger!

I’m sure it was smooth sailing by the time we got to Iowa and we’d already started playing our favorite road trip game- what would you do if you won the lottery? Chris’s answer never changes, he wouldn’t tell anyone and he’d invest it wisely.  He might splurge and buy a new car.

Mine is a bit different… I immediately fly my closest friends and family to an island to celebrate all weekend long. And then I buy a big plot of land somewhere and start building the Harlow Foundation: an animal rescue sanctuary. And of course I buy my beach house to write that Oscar winning screenplay starring me and Jennifer Lawrence as best friends! Obviously.

By the time you’re reading this I’m sure Chris and I have already both eaten our weight in beef jerky. I packed almonds, but if I know me, they haven’t even been open. It’s damn near impossible to eat healthy in a car. Besides, who doesn’t like to start a lake weekend with a good sodium bloat?

Anyway, now it’s officially time for Friday. Hope you get to do something fun!

Happy Memorial weekend! And a big huge thanks to everyone who has served for this country!

The pre road trip bickers are a REAL thing! Anyone who says they aren't clearly has never road tripped with a significant other (or another human being honestly). "Yes I packed my phone charger, why do you think I'm incapable of packing on my own?!"…five minutes later "We have to turn around, I forgot my phone charger…" and of course, my all time favorite, is what temperature do we keep the car!

Have fun! And hope Harlow can behave on the drive 🙂

What Kirsti said below about the temperature of the car is the biggest source of bickering for us. My husband gets SO HOT when he's driving and keeps everything at ice box status. I mean, I'm Canadian and prefer to be cold instead of hot, but he takes it to a whole other level. We're used to long drives too and 7 hours is no joke. I hope y'all have fun and enjoy your long weekend!

Oh goodness road trips are the "best"! Nathan just gives up and let's me listen to what I want so that's always nice at least!

I agree with Kirsti…the temperature fight is the worst with my husband! He always blasts the heat in my face when in the car!

oh man i'm about to get in the car with my entire family for 14 hours. help me please.

Hahaha I think our biggest thing is the temperature inside the car. My boyfriend only knows extremes. He always puts the heat on all the way or the AC on all the way. There is nothing in between for him! I always pack a banana and then get salt and vinegar chips and super nibs the first time we stop for gas. There might still be a banana under my seat from the last trip. Have fun!

Have a great weekend! Sounds like it's already off to a perfect start!

That's what doggy anxiety pills kick in…we shove Bella's bed in the back and she snoozes the entire drive…. Otherwise she would most likely cry for 6 hours until we got there. Haha I hope you guys have a great weekend and where oh where is that cute bag from??

Road trips can be make it or break it for some couples. So if you have done multiple road trips and haven't killed each other yet, you're doing great.

I make a ten hour road trip about once a month (the joys of a long distance relationship) so I have gotten very strategic in the stops that I make. Basically I don't drink anything and stop only once for food gas and pee. My butt is incredibly cramped by the end but at least I can rest knowing I didn't wast precious times with stupid things like hydration. Hope you have a great weekend!

Have a fun weekend! I think if you buy chocolate covered almonds you'll have no problem devouring them 😉

I was in the car for 15 hours driving from Nebraska back to Ohio. It was terrible. I never want to do that again. Ever. In life. lol. Happy memorial day weekend!

I don't have a significant other, but have done road trips of three-plus hours with friends and colleagues. Even if there was drama, I was unaffected by it. Then again, I feel that my low-maintenance personality makes me immune to some bickering.

My Dad, however, never starts out trips well, whether they are road trips or trips from Lincoln to Omaha in order to go to Eppley to fly on a trip.
