Chris and I have been engaged for one month now.
In regards to wedding planning, we’ve done nothing. We plan to start planning. Any day now.
In the meantime, this is what I have done in the past month.
I’ve gotten more manis in the past 30 days than I have in my entire life. I have never ever been a manicure kind of girl (always seemed too frivolous), but now I suddenly feel like I have to have pretty nails that are presentable and easy on the eyes at all times. No more chewed on fingers for this girl. And when the nail salon ten feet from my house charges $12 how can I say no? So what if the nail technicians at Rose Nails all appear to be under the age 14, they’re like family to me now. Like little sisters.
I’ve shown my finger to a lot of people. Well, technically they’re looking at my ring. But it still feels just a little awkward to me when someone says “oh let me see it!” and I wiggle my fingers out in front of me like I’m a child showing off my rubies.
Last weekend I finally created a wedding board on Pinterest. It’s called “Guess It’s Probably Time.” And right now 90% of the pins are about dog tuxedos and ways to involve your dog in your wedding. I know what you’re thinking, only weird people actually have their dog at their ceremony. And you’re right, I am weird and Harlow will most definitely be there. I won’t have it any other way, mom.
Other than the dog stuff, I wasn’t so much into the wedding ideas on Pinterest. It was just too much. Too many lighted trees and burlap napkins and seashell name cards. I’m hoping I’ll come around sooner or later with a sudden burst of Pinterest wedding planning energy…
I still accidentally call Chris my boyfriend. And then when I catch myself and have to say “I mean my fiance” I can’t help but giggle. But nine times out of ten I’m talking to Harlow and he doesn’t seem to mind.
Likewise I giggle when Chris introduces me as his fiance. But he does too so it’s okay.
I get excited to wear a pretty ring. Who knew this would happen? I’ve gotten so girly about something I never expected I would be. Please excuse the obnoxious photos on Instagram, I’m excited what can I say.
Perhaps due to our lack of planning, I’ve also started having wedding dreams. Nightmares, if you will. They typically involve me arriving late to the ceremony, without a dress, borrowing a dress from a stranger, sometimes I have to borrow from a homeless person, and then getting to a reception only to see that no one is there because we forgot to invite anyone. And there’s never any cake.
Every once in a while I’ll say to Chris, “hey we should try to do some wedding stuff this weekend” and he’ll say “like what?” Then I respond, “I don’t really know.” And that usually ends the convo.
So one month into it, that’s where we stand.
If you have better advice where to start or what to do… let me know.
Baby steps.
