How To Get Skinny & Grow Your Hair Long

I’ve always been a huge fan of smoothies. Although when I say smoothies I typically mean big thick drinks made with a. ice cream or b. alcohol. Preferably both.
When I was a kid, if I could convince my mom to buy me a pina colada smoothie from Orange Julius (which we all know was a super extravagant thing) when I was at the mall it was a damn good day. Unfortunately this rarely happened so I had to settle for the Dixie Cup sized samples they gave out. My childhood was so sad.
Anyway, given my recent terrible eating binge, I’ve decided I’m going to give the healthy thing a try for awhile. *Keyword: try. I’m not a real big lover of green stuff, but I’ll eat it if I can sneak it in recipes where I don’t taste it. So that’s where smoothies come into play. I combined a few juice detox recipes I found on Pinterest and did some reading on the best ingredients to put in a smoothie and came up with the one you see below.

I know what you’re thinking, a smoothie with kale and spinach must taste like shit. That was my thought too. As I was making it I was already contemplating throwing it out in fact.

But then something crazy happened. I drank it and I liked it. I repeat, I liked it! I didn’t just tolerate it, it actually tasted good. For the past week Chris and I have been drinking a smoothie every morning for breakfast and it might just be in my head, but I already feel better and feel like some of the Christmas pounds have been shed. Am I claiming that drinking this smoothie will make you skinny (and make your hair grow) as my title implies? No, not at all. That was just a cheap ploy on my part to get you here.

I’m simply saying I feel like I’ve discovered an awesome way to eat the green stuff I normally don’t. And because of it, I have more energy and just all around feel better. Who knew eating healthy actually did that? Crazy stuff.

And no, this isn’t a sponsored post or anything. I’m just so amazed I actually liked this I feel like I must tell the world.

The only downfall is that I’m constantly going to the grocery store to buy more fruits and vegis. Last week I finished two bags of kale and spinach in five days. Now that’s a sentence I never thought I’d say.

So here’s how I go about making this magic smoothie:
I fill my mixer with 50% spinach and kale.
Then add a handful of blueberries.
1 banana.
1/2 of freshly squeezed lemon.
1 tablespoon of raw honey.
1 tablespoon of Chia Seeds.
And then about 1/4 cup of water, give or take.

Give it a try and I promise you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

If you have any other ingredients you add to your smoothies please let me know, I’m all about the juicing right now.

I made my first green smoothie last night too! I used spinach, kale, almond milk, 1 frozen banana, 1 tbsp peanut butter. It was surprisingly yummy & filling. I'll have to try this recipe too. Cheers!

I love hiding the taste of kale and spinach with bananas! So good! Sometimes I do spinach, banana, almond milk and peanut butter. So yummy!

Oh my goodness, I will have to add all of this to the grocery list for tomorrow – this sounds like something I definitely could get behind! Two questions: (1) what kind of mixer/blender do you use (2) have you ever tried it with frozen blueberries?

Yes!! I do this all the time, even when it is cold outside (and people think I'm crazy). Another fun trick is adding protein. I don't do dairy, so whey is out of the question, but I have found that pea protein is actually really tasty and doesn't have a weird texture (I am super picky about this). My favorite brand is vega but I'm sure there are lots of good ones!

Sounds great! I am a big smoothie fan but my blender seems to struggle with greens and I end up chewing most of my smoothies :/ I will be giving your smoothie a try!

I love getting my veggies through smoothies. We typically make mostly spinach, some flax seed, 1 banana, a handful of blueberries and strawberries (we buy frozen at this time of year), ice, and some unsweetened vanilla almond milk (about half a cup or so). So good!

I was so shocked the first time I made a green smoothie, because I looked at the sickly green color and thought "Oh no, there is no way this can taste good" but it was delicious!

I would freeze your bananas and berries in advance – then you get a true smoothy/icy texture! My go-to right now is frozen mango, one frozen banana and about a cup and a half of spinach. Soooooo goood!

There was this AMAZING smoothie they made at the smoothie bar at my internship this summer – completely addicted to it. Spinach, red apple, green apple, and avocado. And some honey. Heaven!!!

I will have to try this! I tried doing some smoothies at the beginning of this summer and uh gag reflex. So I am all about good tasting ones! Happy 2015 girl!

This actually looks DELISH. My mom was the same way – no Orange Julius for me! But this smoothie looks like it's almost as good. Almost. I'm game!

Sign up for the Simple Green Smoothie 30 Day Challenge. I'm a big fan. They send you a grocery list and recipes each week. I haven't had a bad one yet. But seriously, i hate kale.

I do Arbonne protein shakes and put in kale and spinach and all kinds of nasty but good for you things! It's vegan protein which is awesome, and I'm still amazed that I drink them. I've always hated shakes.
