A Day In My Life

I always love when bloggers do the photo diary posts of a day in their life. I like to look at their peaceful mornings when they get up extra early to enjoy their artistically crafted lattes on their balconies that overlook the beach or the NYC skyline as they go over their to-do list for the day in their beautiful $100 planners. (I was going to name drop a designer planner here but I’m so out of touch with this kind of thing I didn’t even know who to name drop.)

And so I thought about doing my own “day in the life.” But then I got up today and realized I’d have to try pretty damn hard to make my life look cool. For starters my mornings aren’t peaceful or relaxing. I wake up almost every single day in an absolute panic. Usually because I’ve pushed snooze on my phone for a good hour or two.

When I finally drag myself out of bed I typically put on the first thing I can find, which is most likely the sweatshirt hanging on the side of my laundry basket. Clothes in the laundry basket = dirty. Clothes hanging on the edge of laundry basket = maybe worn/maybe not, not really dirty, but not worthy of being hung back up either.

And once I’m dressed in yesterday’s clothing Har and I go on our first walk of the day. When we get home I immediately make some coffee while Harlow watches me, patiently waiting for his morning treat, and then I eventually wander out to my office area.

See that little office chair hiding in the corner? That’s my “office.”

It’s a little nook I’ve turned into my work space. Kinda like how Joey turned the nook in the Tanner family room into his bedroom in the early episodes.

And depending on the squirrel situation outside, Harlow is usually behind me ready to burst through the front window at any second.

Or he’s happily snoozing like this.

I think we both know it’s usually the first.

But let me back up here and let it be known that before I start any work I always eat breakfast. It’s probably my favorite meal of the day. Right now I’m on a big bagel sandwich kick. It might not look healthy, but I think it is. Maybe.

It’s just 1 egg, 2 slices of turkey bacon, spinach, mushroom, cheese, all tucked inside a bagel-thin from Trader Joes. That can’t be that bad, right? Regardless I’m okay with eating a big breakfast because my lunch is always light. In the summer I eat a yogurt parfait for lunch almost every day. Unless I’m hungover, in that case I’ll eat my cabinets.

I add a little cereal on top for some crunch because it’s healthier than granola. And mostly because it’s cheaper too.

But back to my “office” where I spend most of my day. I manage the social media accounts for several businesses so I start my work load like I start my morning- in a panic. I’m almost always certain there’s not enough time in the day to accomplish everything so I’m usually overwhelmed for a good part of my morning. I create graphics, Tweet, Facebook, Pin, write blog posts for company pages, make videos, I’ll pretty much do whatever a client asks. I try to work as quickly and efficiently as possible because I know it’s only a matter of time before Harlow demands another walk.

Because yes, I’ve managed to raise a dog who knows that he runs my life. It’s nobody’s fault but my own so I’ve simply accepted it at this point.

And now because I’m back in panic mode as this post has taken me much longer than it should have, I’ll just sum up the rest of my day by saying it’s pretty much everything I just said repeated five more times. Food. Work. Dog. Until it’s time for happy hour with a glass of wine on my patio and usually a comedy show at night. Tonight I’m seeing SNL’s Aidy Bryant perform at iO with Virgin Daiquiri and I couldn’t be more excited. She’s one of my favs.

And I just realized how ironic it is that I felt rushed through out this entire post because that truly is a day in my life- I’m always in an unnecessary rush.

I love these posts! I, too, have thought about writing one but, same- my life never feels as glamorous as some of the other "Day in the Life" posts. I'm impressed that you even change clothes for the day. I can't tell you how many days I look at the clock, it's 1p and I'm still in the clothes I slept in. (It was hard to confess that, even here. Again, why I haven't written one of these.)

That Harlow pic by the window is hilarious! During school that is exactly how my days feel, like I am so rushed all the time! Right now during the summer I can do nothing but relax and I truly enjoy that!

I can totally relate! I work at home as a brand manager for a PR agency, so I totally understand what it's like working from home!

You are seeing Aidy?!?!! I am jealous. And did you see Ben and Jerry's came out with a SNL Gilly flavor? Looks delicious. And I love a day in your life…so much more relateable without the fancy lattes and overpriced planner!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has raised a dog that runs her life. Nala demands to drink out of a cup, and if said cup is filled with water for me it's only better.

Haha, you're life sounds awesome! At least dragging Harlow on a walk lets you get outside and away from the desk, I crave that once I"ve been sitting on my ass staring at a spreadsheet for nine straight hours.

I am loving the little nook! I've always wanted one of those, but alas haven't ever had one in any places i've lived. Lucky girl!

After I finished reading this post, all I could think of was the scene in Clueless when Dionne's boyfriend shaves his head and when she asks, "What were you thinking?" he replies, "Because I'm keepin it real! I'm keepin it real!"

PS thanks for keeping it real. I'm on to those bloggers with perfect pictures and lives (cough, fake, cough).

I love the idea of cereal instead of granola.. smart girl LOL

A day in my life would be pretty boring! Run, clean , breakfast, work, netflix The end!

Omg I love this post…I've been seeing so many bloggers do these lately, and I was literally just thinking I should do one but was like WTF would I write about?! Our days actually sound pretty similar, I sleep in until as late as possible, turn on my laptop in my PJs, eat breakfast and maybe get dressed around lunch…and by get dressed I mean trade literal sweat pants for yoga pants…from then on it's pretty much a combination of working/procrastinating by reading blogs until my husband gets home…not a real exciting day, but it works for me 🙂

  12. June 25, 2014 / 2:20 pm

I love this! I also like that you weren't focused on trying to make your day look cool. But I do love your breakfast and lunch ideas (that bagel sandwich had me drooling) and I LOVE your exposed brick walls.

  13. June 25, 2014 / 2:23 pm

My dog definitely thinks I'm her pet, or servant as most of her complaints and requests involve food. Oh well, at least we're not alone. Have fun at the show tonight! I saw Aidy do asssscat at UCB back in October and she was amazing.

  14. June 25, 2014 / 2:35 pm

Bagel thins?! So I don't have to cut my bagel halves in half anymore? Mind blown.

  15. June 25, 2014 / 2:36 pm

You did succeed in making your life look cool though! What I would give to hang out at home with my dog and blog all day…sheesh. 🙂

  16. June 25, 2014 / 3:03 pm

Love this! I may have to use this idea for a post if you don't mind. My day in the life of is pretty boring and rushed as well. Plus people my judge my parenting choices…

  17. June 25, 2014 / 3:04 pm

    I love Harlow's life!! 🙂

  18. June 25, 2014 / 4:33 pm

Is it weird that I've been reading your blog for a while and didn't realize you had a job? Guess I missed it. Working from home sounds great. My work day is totally and completely unbloggable. It's that boring.

    • June 25, 2014 / 4:35 pm

Haha not at all 🙂 I try to disguise it. It's super boring. I'm currently writing a post about the power of market research. Woof.

  19. June 25, 2014 / 5:31 pm

Now I'm starving looking at that sandwich.

  20. June 25, 2014 / 5:34 pm

I think your day sounds kinda awesome! i mean working from home can be really great. although it really is hard to stay focused with the dog (and food of course). have fun tonight- that sounds awesome!

  21. June 25, 2014 / 5:43 pm

LOVE your little desk nook and that bagel sandwich looks delicious!!!

  22. June 25, 2014 / 5:47 pm

I know exactly what you're talking about! One of my current gigs is "kitten puppet" as they call it (also the reason I am staying in someone's house in Brazil) so my day is organized around three cats…

  23. June 25, 2014 / 6:51 pm

Wow! It sounds like such a cool day. I do social media from home, My day goes; Roll out of bed, put in contacts, grab hoodie, stare at computer, eat really bad food, take a nap, read, go to sleep

  24. June 25, 2014 / 6:54 pm

If I did a post like this, it would mostly consist of waking up late, driving a really long time to get to work, and then sitting in a messy office all day. Kind of boring. So I'll probably do it.

  25. June 25, 2014 / 8:55 pm

I love Harlow by the window, standing on his back legs like a person. Food, work, dog sounds like a pretty great way to spend the day.

  26. June 26, 2014 / 12:01 am

I love your living room! I want a little space to blog and do work but right now I don't know if we have space for it. x

  27. June 26, 2014 / 12:06 am

Love the look and vybe of your home! And I love the 'office' as well !

  28. June 26, 2014 / 12:22 am

I love that you compare your corner little office to Joey's bedroom. This is why I read your blog! 😛

  29. June 26, 2014 / 6:52 am

hehe, now i don´t feel so bad as i too am one of those people that will hit the snooze button for an hour before getting up. anyway, your days sound cool to me, and your dog is the funniest thing 🙂 i don´t blame you for having him rule your life, who could say no to that nose??

  30. June 26, 2014 / 10:11 am

"Unless I'm hungover, in which case I'll eat my cabinets." HAHA I feel you girl. And I DEFinitely feel you about the clothes situation. I have a pile of clean clothes by my side of the bed that I dip into every morning before work. Then there's a pile of dirty ones by my bookcase that I don't dare go near until it's laundry day (I lost my hamper… how do you lose a hamper?). And then I have a stack of boxes with more clothes piled on top of them that I just haven't unpacked/put away since the move.

    I suck.

The part about clothes around compared to in the laundry basket made me laugh because thats exactly how my wardrobe situation works 🙂

Yea….I don't think I could do this kind of post either. I lay in bed for an hour. Then watch my dog poop. Aw a teachers life on the summer hahaha

Good new my bf is back.. I was having serious relationship problems with my bf and it had has gotten to a point of him moving out to his friend’s apartment. everything got worse because he started going to bars and strip clubs frequently with his friend, getting drunk and passing out. He always threatens me on phone whenever I call him because of all the bad advises that his friend has given him. I really love him and we had been dating for 8 years which gave us a beautiful daughter. I had also lost a lot of money on therapists until I was introduced to Dr happy by a friend whom he helped to marry her childhood bf; this gave me total confidence and strength to get him back. I did all he asked and a day after the spell my bf called me and rushed back home, things just changed between us emotionally. He has a job and stopped drinking and keeping irrelevant friends. It’s a miracle I never believed was possible because I had lost all hope until I found Dr happy. So that’s why I promised to share my testimony all over the universe. Please my advise to every one looking for relationship help, marriage help, get and fix your broken home, is to contact Dr happy the real Africa spell caster now on [email protected] for more about him and his love spell how it work fast visit his web site….. http://happyspelltemple.webs.com/ and for mobile call or Whats-app messages add him on +2348133873774
