Limited Too Tuesdays- Maybe I’ll Be a Comedian

(Some open mics have stuffed pandas that sit beside “the stage.” Stand up is a weird world you guys, it’s a really weird world.) But just for the record Merkle’s is one of my favorite open-mics.

Well anyway, today is going to be the last edition of Limited Too Tuesdays for awhile- a post in which I look back through my old diaries to see what middle school me was up to. It’s time to take a break from my diary, plus as I get older I just get angrier and nobody wants to see that.

Let’s go out on a high note with a post that was written over fourteen years ago (holy shit!) Seriously though, where does time go? I can actually remember this night and it doesn’t feel like it was fourteen years ago.

Monday February 7, 2000.

So as it would turn out, I started thinking about being a comedian back in the early 2000s. It would just take me thirteen more years before I finally got the guts to actually give it a try. Funny how life works like that. If there’s any one thing I regret about the choices I’ve made up until this point it’s that I didn’t start sooner. Didn’t start stand-up sooner, didn’t start improv, didn’t start seriously writing, why did I have to sit around for two years after college twiddling my thumbs just waiting for happy hour to roll around? But most importantly, why did it take me almost ten years before I learned how to correctly spell “maybe.”

I guess maybe timing is everything.

Oh, and I should clarify I got stitches out of my chin because I had a cyst removed, which only returned one year later. And then the next year I grew a tumor. I guess eating fertilizer as a kid wasn’t the best idea after all.

Look at young Tay being a fortune teller. And I'm drooling over that blazer in the first picture – so. cute.

Aw it's things like this that make your childhood self proud right?! That and you're not a slut so you're golden!

Haha this is great. I'm too scared/embarrassed to read my old diary entries.

That's pretty kewl (totally 7th grade… going with the theme here) that you knew you wanted to be a comedian back then! I still have no idea what the hell I'm doing with my life or what I want to be. Maybe some day it will hit me…

Being a comedian was clearly your destiny! And "mabey" you didn't start earlier, but everything happens when it's supposed to 😉

Sad to see these posts go but they were great while they lasted 🙂 And better late than never! I love that being a comedian isn't one of those things that you have to have a rich dad to get you in or start going to special camps when you're 7 or all the other things that often leave "normal" kids with a dream in the dust. This takes real talent and motivation and you obviously have it to have gotten where you are already! So fun to see you write about it so long ago

So awesome to see that in your journal!
And I guess the saying "better late than never" is definitely true! Glad you're not twiddling your thumbs anymore! 🙂

No. I cannot believe this is the end! These are a total must read!

Crazy when you can look back and see those moments where (whether you knew it or not) the person you are today was clearly being formed!

How cool that you wrote that many years ago about being a comedian. I guess there are parts of us that never really change!

I def do not want to be the horse barrel rider like I thought as a kid. Looks like you had it more figured out than me in the career department as a teen.

Thank you for continuing to post these diary entries

I'm going to miss these journal entries! It's hilarious to read the innermost thoughts of kids. I ran across an old diary I had from middle school and just cringed when I read it:) That is awesome you're following your dreams to become comedian. Maybe that means I need to become a paleontologist. That was during the whole Jurassic Park craze, though, so I don't think I had any sort of talent in scraping dirt off old bones:)

  16. March 11, 2014 / 10:30 pm

Wow, it was meant to be!! Being a comedian that is! So crazy to look back, wish I had my old diaries!

I love that you have this segment as part of your blog! I have journals going back to middle school as well and I've considered including entries on my blog, just because there's so much material there and a lot of it is really funny. But a lot of it also doesn't matter now, at all! I'm gonna have to read through your older entries because I love this!
