21 Everyday Struggles Of Being A Blogger

Trying to figure out if it’s best to post in the morning, afternoon, or night….

Worrying about who is going to take your next outfit photo.

And when taking that outfit photo, worrying about who is watching the public photo shoot that is suddenly going on in the street now.

When you write a post and no one comments… (see years 2009-20012 of my archives.)

Captcha.

Wondering why your favorite blogger suddenly locked down their block. Or did they just lock you out?

Dreaming of the day all Picmonkey.com fonts are free. Or the day you decide to buck up and pay $3.99/month.

Hoping Blogher chooses you for that awesome campaign you really want to do… But oh shit, they didn’t choose you yet again.

Wishing you had a prettier home office. Or just a home office at all…

Wondering why some bloggers still have GFC on their blog.

And if you’re a GFC’r, wondering why you’re still refusing to let you go of yours. cough cough.

When you have nothing to write about and you just stare at your computer screen for hours hoping something will magically appear.

Cursing yourself for not taking a single photo over the weekend.

When five people immediately unfollow you on Instagram because you’ve posted yet another photo of Grandma Harlow

Wondering how you’re going to sneak in another sponsor post without having your readers get too annoyed with you.

When Bloglovin just decides not to publish one of your posts to their site for a day. And again the next week. And again the next…

Debating if you should switch to WordPress. Or if you did switch, debating if you should switch back.

When Twitter decides to go crazy and doesn’t link to your site, even though you specifically asked it to.

When your go-to blogger suddenly goes on hiatus for a few weeks and your mind starts wondering about the worst possible situations that must have happened to them.

Too many hashtags.

Not enough hashtags.

Like I always say guys, it’s a blog eat blog world out there. Stay strong. The struggle is real.

Or, hoping Blogher actually accepts you into their ultra exclusive cult. The struggle IS real!

  2. March 26, 2014 / 9:41 am

The crazy thing about this post is that I've thought about every single item on this list at least once or twice or thrice orrrr allll the time lol. Way to read my mind 🙂

The WordPress struggle keeps me up at night. What do I do?! Will I need a new layout?! Obviously, so who will design it? that means more money. How can I get more money? become a stripper? yes… and that's where I am today.

I must be living under a rock…. what's wrong with still using GFC? I still prefer it to Bloglovin and get so upset when people don't have the GFC option on their blog. I guess I feel it's best to have both options to follow on your blog as not everyone has GFC and not everyone has Bloglovin 😛

    • March 26, 2014 / 11:24 am

      I agree Kate.

    • March 27, 2014 / 1:27 am

Hello, I'm fairly new to blogging. I do have Bloglovin on my blog but not familiar with GFC. Can you tell what that is please. Thanks in advance.

  5. March 26, 2014 / 10:00 am

So true!! I always think if I don't post first thing in the morning I'll lose every single one of my readers (the 5 that actually do read haha)!!

  6. March 26, 2014 / 10:02 am

I love this, so true. Thanks for sharing. It is hard being a blogger. It's a struggle to constantly reinvent yourself and to compete with other bloggers who have better cameras and more time then you.

    Agi:)

Bloglovin has been causing some serious blogger problems lately, it needs to get its act together.

  8. March 26, 2014 / 10:30 am

so many things to worry about. also why am i not being paid full time for this? I mean the number of hours I put in…

  9. March 26, 2014 / 10:36 am

Or just trying to figure out how the hell BlogHer works… cause I have no idea!

  10. March 26, 2014 / 10:48 am

I refuse to get rid of GFC…I don't even have bloglovin…gasp!

  11. March 26, 2014 / 10:59 am

It's only $3.99 a month??! My Gaaawd, why haven't I bitten the bullet and just paid for that already!? I mean, shit.. I use it enough! Hahaha.. You learn something new everyday!!

Stay strong Bloggers.. I'm struggling right now, but I'm keeping strong. !!

  12. March 26, 2014 / 11:04 am

awww don´t stop posting pics of Grandma Harlow! actually I´m adding you on instagram just so I can see them! 😉

  13. March 26, 2014 / 11:11 am

OMG OMG OMG I LOVE THIS!!! hahaha it is soooo true. I feel like iacn relate to like all of it!

  14. March 26, 2014 / 11:22 am

I am a new blogger and I have to say I love your blog! You are absolutely hilarious! So glad I found you. I just started blogging and I already think some of these things. I have a few ideas of what to write about but I never take enough pictures it seems! Oh and I totally understand about who is going to take my outfit pictures!

  15. March 26, 2014 / 11:28 am

Ha ha I relate to pretty much all of this!!!

  16. March 26, 2014 / 11:31 am

Why is this my life. I can't decide which is worse: taking a public photoshoot in a city of people you don't know or on a college campus and people drive by thinking what the eff is she doing and why is she posing like that? I just want to go hide in a corner. Or just stick with mirror selfies. What is life.

  17. March 26, 2014 / 12:08 pm

It makes me really sad when people only have GFC & not bloglovin. I honestly forget that blog posts even show up on my blogger dashboard… so those poor blogs don't even get read. Also, who would unfollow you for posting grandma Harlow?! That's ridonkulous. Is that a word? I don't care.

  18. March 26, 2014 / 12:40 pm

Ha! The IG comment made me laugh, I thought I was the only one who loses multiple followers at once with yet another dog or husband picture.

  19. March 26, 2014 / 1:08 pm

hahaha I love this. Also, the struggle totally IS real.

  20. March 26, 2014 / 1:09 pm

Haha!! This is hysterical! I've only been blogging for about a year but I definitely could relate to over half of your daily struggles. The worst is when many of those happen multiple days in a row…i.e. my life two weeks ago. I also cringe when I think about the looks I would get if people could actually see the strange and insane things I do to get "that perfect shot."

  21. March 26, 2014 / 1:19 pm

    Beyond true!!

I am the worst at taking photos! It's been a goal of mine forever but apparently I'm having too much fun participating in the fun to actually capture it.

  22. March 26, 2014 / 1:21 pm

I can totally relate! -especially getting in sponsored posts without pissing off your readers! I'm riding the blogging strugglebus with you….

  23. March 26, 2014 / 1:43 pm

Pretty much thug life and blog life are interchangeable. Non bloggers just don't understand…

  24. March 26, 2014 / 2:54 pm

So true! It is a struggle but we also love it! Hahaha.
Off topic: My first time on your blog & i love it!

  25. March 26, 2014 / 3:09 pm

Love this!! laughed my way through it because it's all so true.

  26. March 26, 2014 / 3:40 pm

    Nailed it!!!

And wait. I should get rid of GFC!?!

  27. March 26, 2014 / 3:57 pm

    #13 every. damn. time!!

  28. March 26, 2014 / 4:01 pm

This post is gold! I've said it before, but love your sense of humor about blogging. And captcha..I hate it. I don't get why some people have it?

  29. March 26, 2014 / 4:10 pm

I love this. except for the GFC option, however after just switching it's not like anyone is my friend anyway. Awkward. The only one missing is turning a simple picture into a blog worthy picture and having to channel your inner celeb photographer.

  30. March 26, 2014 / 5:47 pm

Let me know if you've figured out the best time of the day thingy : )

Oh…you forgot to mention switching your comments. I just switched to Disqus because I wanted my readers to actually get to read all of the responses I've written them. Small problem…I lost 7,000 comments. That's okay, Typepad managed to get them back 3 days later. Only problem is they are all messed up. I don't look like I've replied to anyone in my older posts, except at the very end when I look like I'm rambling on talking to myself like a crazy person for 30 replies. Oh…another thing I discovered is that I can no longer just click on my readers to view their blogs to visit them. Not. So. Cool.

    bisous
    Suzanne

  31. March 26, 2014 / 7:50 pm

Great post, and at least half of those things have crossed my mind at some point!

  32. March 26, 2014 / 8:56 pm

I use to have these worries but not any more I post when I post and I read what I can when I can and take everything one day at a time

  33. March 26, 2014 / 10:07 pm

how you manage to channel so many of our fears and/or concerns, guess no matter how big or small we are we still have the same worries. and why is it that instagram is the worst for mass dropoffs.

  34. March 26, 2014 / 10:58 pm

Damn capatcha! And my Boss is bugging me to learn WordPress for work but I refuse. It's CRAZY that he expects that of me.

  35. March 26, 2014 / 11:20 pm

Glad to hear I'm not alone in my neuroses.

  36. March 26, 2014 / 11:34 pm

I had to google what GFC is. Georgia Forestry Commission? Greater Faith Church? Gallagher Flynn & Company, LLP? Yeah, it's probably that last one.

Well, whatever it is, I'm sure I still use it. Or have it. Or whatever you do with it.

  37. March 27, 2014 / 12:31 am

ummm….. what's google friend connect? i have seen it but i don't get it. whaaaat is it?

When you write a post and no one comments… (see years 2009-20012 of my archives.) So what happened after 2012 that changed?!

  39. March 27, 2014 / 12:37 pm

I took my own outfit photos yesterday, with a tripod. So. Freaking. Awkward. And yeah, I get no comments, basically ever.

  40. March 27, 2014 / 1:45 pm

Misery loves company at times. If only blogging weren't so damn fun:)

  41. March 27, 2014 / 5:44 pm

Even though I've only started blogging this weekend, I feel the struggles already!!

  42. March 28, 2014 / 3:06 pm

Sometimes, I chuckle to myself when I realize just how much time and energy gets put into blogworld – from myself, and from others. And then I stop because I realize the time spent chuckling can be spent brainstorming more blog ideas.

  43. March 28, 2014 / 4:23 pm

I agree with all of the above – in particular, about the blog lockdown. One of my all time favorite bloggers every did that recently- makes me sad 🙁

  44. March 28, 2014 / 10:01 pm

Haha this is all so true! I get so embarrassed posing for pics!

  45. March 29, 2014 / 6:34 pm

Haha these are so true! Just found your blog through TheAlishaNicole.com! 🙂

  46. March 30, 2014 / 12:32 pm

I'll admit it, I pay for picmonkey and it's TOTALLY WORTH IT

  47. April 1, 2014 / 8:49 am

Thanks for the laughs! EACH of these things and more have crossed my mind. Ha! We are just starting out our blog and have some good content and are trying to develop a following, so I definitely am feeling the pains of your past. Cheers to your success!

Saving the planet is important and so is saving on utility bills. Your electric bill is only going to go up, which is why you need to learn about solar energy and what benefits it can provide you with.

Nice thoughts and very interacting and attractive ways to say all these lines. MOst of the people donot understand how to develop their allertness towards the right work. so as the child and its the responsibility of elders to show them right path. It shows the importance of preschool for children.
