We’re not even four days into September and already fall is all the talk. The excitement of change is just in the air. When I walked Harlow this morning around 8:00 a.m. it was barely sixty degrees outside. My Facebook feed had at least 45 statuses about Starbucks Pumpkin lattes before 9:00 a.m.. I know I’ll probably be shunned from blogland for saying this, but I don’t like pumpkin lattes. There, I said it. Talk about a weight off my back. I used to get one about once a year, you know just to feel a part of the crowd, and to write a Facebook status about it obviously. But this year I’ve finally decided enough is enough. I’m not going to pretend to be someone I’m not, I’m going to be who I really am, and that’s someone who doesn’t give a shit about pumpkin lattes.
And it’s not just lattes, I’ve started to notice girls go a little crazy for anything “pumpkin spice” this time of year. I think I could post a recipe for “pumpkin spiced tree bark” on Pinterest and watch as the repins start rolling in. Or pumpkin spiced kale chips…
Anyway, I truly do love this time of year. And here are just five reasons why.
1. Back-to-school shopping.
I remember once upon a time, long long ago, when my parents used to take me back-to-school shopping. Oh this was just the best day ever. I would buy fleece vests from Old Navy in every color available, new hooded sweatshirts from GAP that said GAP as big as possible just to make sure everyone knew where they were from, and maybe just maybe, I’d splurge and get a stupidly expensive shirt from Abercrombie. What I wouldn’t give to have someone take me back-to-school shopping these days. The only thing I’d ask for are these ankle boots. I want them more than I wanted zebra striped capri pants from Limited Two in seventh grade.
And if I get the boots, I’ll obviously need this sweater to go with them. If I could live in chunky creme sweaters I would be a happy girl.
2. New fall TV shows.
Mind you I don’t usually end up watching them past episode 1, but nothing says fall to me like a bunch of new TV shows trying too hard to make it. Andy Samberg’s about to star in a new comedic cop show called Brooklyn Nine Nine? Sounds like a hit to me! Can’t wait for the hijinks to begin.
A cop in a floral speedo? Man, this show is gonna be good! …
3. Soup.
Chili season is almost upon us.
4. Scarves.
If it’s chili time, it’s scarf time once again.
#5. The leaves.
If only this look lasted more than a week or two… Luckily, I think we’ve got at least another month before Chicago starts to change.
What do you love about fall? (besides pumpkin lattes…)
